Policies and Procedures

Please read the following policies and procedures about your lesson, parking, tuition and more.

A lesson time is worked out between you and I. I do try to keep lessons at a regular scheduled time, but circumstances arise and schedules change. Let me know as soon as possible if the future schedule will be changing soon, so that lessons can remain continuous.

In order to make the most use of the time allotted for instruction, I urge all students to arrive promptly, but no earlier than five minutes before your scheduled time. Some students feel very uncomfortable when someone else is present during a lesson. If there are no students prior to your time, please come to the door at your scheduled time.

Parents are always welcome to sit in on their child’s lesson. In fact, I encourage this whenever possible, especially with young students. Having an extra set of ears increases the likelihood that the things discussed during a lesson will be remembered in the coming week. Sometimes students may wish to bring siblings or friends along. As long as they are well behaved, this actually is a good thing as it gives the student an opportunity to play in front of an audience, however small. Do note, however, that I have limited seating space available, so it is best not to bring more than two other people to lessons.

Pick-up Time
If you drop your child off for a lesson, please remember to pick your child up promptly at the appropriate time. For young children I prefer that you come to the door personally rather than asking them to wait on the sidewalk. I do not intend ever to leave a small child unattended, but also please remember that I cannot wait with your child. An additional fee may also be incurred.

Scheduling Conflict/Missed Lessons/Late Arrivals
PLEASE NOTE: I want you to have all of your lessons.
The more time you work with me, the more I can help you grow. This makes both you and I look good  when you do well. If you would like to reschedule a lesson, please let me know at your earliest convenience. You have a better chance of getting a rescheduled lesson if you contact me before the start of the week. Otherwise, I may not be able to reschedule and a lesson will be missed (and billed). HOWEVER, sometimes, these lessons can be made up in the future.

If you must miss a lesson due to illness or to a scheduling conflict, please call or e-mail to notify me. Missed lessons will be made up at my discretion, as my time is limited. In the event that a lesson is missed without advance notice, the lesson time will be billed. I apologize, in advance, but if I have to reschedule every last-minute cancellation, I will be waiting to teach and then teaching all week long. I’ve even had some people (in the past) reschedule (last minute) several lessons in one week and then ask for a refund or credit when they didn’t show. Forgetting to reschedule me ahead of time should not cause me time or money.  Late arrivals will not be made up, nor can the lesson time be extended, unless I deem differently. You are paying for my time, as well as my expertise.

  • For Burlington students, if a makeup is due, travel to Pleasant Prairie for the additional lesson may be required.
  • Students who arrive more than ten minutes late for a half-hour lesson, or more than twenty minutes late for a one-hour lesson, may forfeit their lesson time.

If I Cancel a Lesson

If an emergency makes it necessary for me to cancel a lesson, the lesson time will be made up. I usually know at least a week in advance for lessons I need to reschedule.

Weather-related Issues

Snow days (unless in excess) will not be made up

Tuition is a monthly fee and is due no later than the first lesson of each month. A $5 per week late fee may be added for each week payment is late. Lessons may be suspended if payment is not received. It is preferable for you to pay at the last lesson of the previous month, if possible. I do accept PayPal, as well, if you prefer an online or credit card method of payment. Cost for lessons will be an additional $5 per month for this service to cover PayPal expenses. If you need to make other payment arrangements, please speak with me about this in advance. These fees are for instruction only and do not include the cost of music books or other materials.

For the summer months (June-August), vacation times will not be billed, as needed.

Monthly fees (September – May) take into account standard vacation times, which usually include:

  • Easter week
  • Thanksgiving week
  • 1-2 weeks in December
  • 1-2 weeks, TBD

No refunds will be given once the class has begun and/or if the minimum is not met.

Contact Me
I encourage parents and students to get in touch with me whenever questions or concerns arise. Although I do not generally answer the telephone during a lesson, you may feel free to leave a message or text me a quick question. I will respond at my earliest opportunity.

CATHE Parking
There is a parking lot behind the CATHE Center building. You may park there and enter through the back door. Go up the stairs to the 3rd floor to room 3 for the studio.

Parental Approval
All students under the age of 18 must have approval from a parent or legal guardian before beginning lessons.

NOTE: If you cannot adhere to this policy for whatever reason (odd/altering schedule, etc…), please contact me to talk about your special circumstances. I will see if we can work something out. I reserve the right to change terms and policies without prior written notice by changing the terms and policies posted on this webpage.
